Welcome to the Taffy Barrel! We are Rick and Sandie Root. We had the dream of the perfect candy store. One with the look and feel of an old general store, warm and inviting and a place where enchanting smells fill the air and childhood memories come alive. All those who visit would capture the sounds of an old creaky wood floor and admire the turn of the century tin ceiling, while enjoying the gentle breeze from the old fashioned ceiling fans on a warm summers day. We imagined a room full of old oak barrel piled high with our favorite old fashioned candies and a variety of gourmet salt water taffy. Children young and old would come and fill their baskets with their favorite sweet treats. We traveled the country in search of the perfect candy maker. The taffy would be a soft creamy whipped nougat, one that was not to hard, not to sweet and with just a hint of salt to make it perfect. After several years of travel and lots of taffy tasting, if finally came to be. The Taffy Barrel opened its doors in the spring of 2007 in beautiful downtown Charlevoix where we have watched our dreams come true. We invite all to stop by and say hi when you're visiting the area, or fill your basket online. Either way, you're sure to enjoy a brief step back in time, and leave with a smile and a basket full of treats.
